Fingal County Council to purchase 36 units

Dublin West TD and Minister for Social Protection Leo Varadkar has confirmed that 36 new social housing units will become available in Hansfield thanks to funding from his colleague, the Minister for Housing Simon Coveney.

Minister Varadkar has welcomed €8 million in funding allocated to Fingal County Council by the Department of Housing, Planning, Heritage & Local Government.

“This significant investment in Dublin West shows the Government’s determination to solve the housing crisis. I’m delighted that Fingal County Council has been selected for inclusion in the Local Authority Housing Capital Programme.

“This comes on top of last year’s announcement of €2.2 million to restore social housing in Fingal. Other measures include a Housing Agency initiative to purchase social housing, while local authorities can also restore vacant properties under a new Repair and Leasing Initiative.

“There’s no doubt that housing is one of the biggest crises afflicting Ireland, but it’s one the Government is determined to tackle. And the Rebuilding Ireland strategy is starting to make serious inroads.”
