Local TD and Minister for Health Leo Varadkar has confirmed that a new graveyard can now proceed in Dublin 15 after the council reached agreement with landowners.
“I am pleased to confirm that the Chief Executive of Fingal County Council has come to an agreement with landowners that will allow for a new graveyard in Dublin 15. The graveyard will be located in the Porterstown/Kellystown area close to Luttrellstown Community College, and not far from Luttrellstown Castle.
“There has been a need for a new graveyard for a number of years since space ran out in the Castleknock (St Brigid’s) and Clonsilla (St Mary’s) churchyards. There is a lot of space in Mulhuddart Graveyard but it is quite far from Castleknock, Clonsilla and Blanchardstown parish. Planning and design on the new graveyard will begin immediately. It’s expected to have sufficient capacity for several decades.
“I particularly want to acknowledge the work of council staff and management, Cllr Eithne Loftus who prioritised this issue some years ago and also Cllr Ted Leddy and Cllr Kieran Dennison who have worked on it actively.”
