Local TD and Minister for Health Leo Varadkar has welcomed the announcement that six sports clubs and organisations in Dublin West will receive €282,000 in the new round of sport capital grants.
This comes on top of €2 million in grants already allocated to 30 local clubs in Dublin 15 and 7 from when Minister Varadkar was the Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport, as well as funding to renovate and re-open the De Paul Swimming Pool on Navan Road.
“Fine Gael in Government re-instated the Sports Capital Programme which has allowed a further €282,000 to go to clubs and organisations in Dublin 15 and Dublin 7. When they were in government back in 2008, Fianna Fáil, the Greens and the Independents scrapped sports grants for local clubs,” Minister Varadkar said.
“Meanwhile work continues on the most exciting sports project in the country at the National Sports Campus. The latest development at the Campus is the start of work on the National Indoor Arena, the missing piece in Ireland’s sporting infrastructure.”
