Varadkar delighted to see work starting on project that he initiated
Local TD and Minister for Health Leo Varadkar joined his colleagues, Minister for Transport, Tourism, & Sport Paschal Donohoe and Tánaiste Joan Burton to turn the sod for the start of work on the amazing new National Indoor Arena at the Sports Campus in Blanchardstown.
“This was a really special day as it means that work has now started on the long-awaited Indoor Arena. I was privileged to commence this project in my former role as Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport and it means a lot to me to see work underway.
“The arena is the missing piece in Ireland’s sporting infrastructure, and will be the jewel in the crown of the Sports Campus in Blanchardstown. Athletes from West Dublin and right across Ireland will have access to world-class indoor facilities, to train and prepare for international competitions.
“The Arena features an Indoor Athletics Training Centre, a multi-sport Indoor Training Centre, and a National Gymnastics Training Centre. Meanwhile work is also underway on the Irish Institute of Sport High Performance Centre and the Campus Pavilion Building.
“I congratulate Minister Paschal Donohoe and the entire Campus team for getting this across the line and I’m really looking forward to seeing the finished product.”
