Local TD and Minister for Health Leo Varadkar has said he is delighted that St Mochtas National School in Clonsilla has finally got planning permission for a new school.
“This is fantastic news for the school and I congratulate everyone involved. St Mochtas has been seeking planning permission for quite some time.
“The next step is to secure funding for the project. I will be raising this shortly with the Minister for Education, Jan O’Sullivan.
“St Mochtas was opened in 1854 and is one of the oldest schools in the area. Although it’s no longer in its original premises, it does need new facilities to cater for the 892 children in the school.
“St Mochtas currently uses a mixture of existing buildings and pre-fabs on a small 4 acre site. This planning application would allow the school to move into a purpose-built premises, far more suited to the needs of this growing school.”
