Local TD and Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport Leo Varadkar has congratulated the National Aquatic Centre (NAC) for winning a marketing award at the Fingal Dublin Chamber Awards.
The NAC won in the Best Sales & Marketing Campaign Excellence category at the awards for its success in attracting teams from across the world in advance of the Olympics, including a number of countries who conducted their pre-Olympic training in Blanchardstown.
Teams and athletes from the US, South Korea, Poland, Venezuela, Surinam, Hungary, Canada, Great Britain, Montenegro, Romania, Iceland, Croatia, Kuwait, and Tunisia all visited the NAC in advance of the London Olympics.
“The NAC really came into its own this year and played a crucial role in the Government’s efforts to attract teams and athletes to Ireland before the Olympics,” Minister Varadkar said.
“It’s proof that this outstanding facility can compete head-to-head with similar facilities around the world. The NAC has shown its worth since it opened, and will be central to the National Sports Campus, which is currently being developed at the site in Blanchardstown. I want to congratulate the centre, its staff and management on winning this award, which recognises the excellent work promoting the centre nationally and internationally.”
