Local TD and Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport Leo Varadkar has welcomed the creation of 50 jobs at a new restaurant in Blanchardstown shopping centre.
The Nandos chain of restaurants is opening a new restaurant in Blanchardstown in November, and has been seeking full-time and part-time staff. Around two thirds of the 50 new jobs are expected to be full-time positions.
Minister Varadkar said: ‘I’m delighted that Nandos has chosen Blanchardstown for one of its two new Dublin restaurants. This is a welcome boost to the area and will create 50 new positions. Nandos is an international success story and it’s great to be able to welcome the chain to the area’.
“I’m particularly happy to see new jobs being created in the restaurant sector. The Government’s Jobs Initiative last year introduced a special 9% VAT rate for hospitality and tourism businesses, including restaurants. Since then, the number of people employed in the hospitality sector has risen by more than 6,000, and by more than 10,000 since the general election.”
Nandos specialises in Portuguese/African-style spicy chicken dishes. With restaurants opening in Blanchardstown and Liffey Valley, Nandos shortly will employ 380 people in Ireland.
