Varadkar welcomes European Team Track & Field Championships

Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport Leo Varadkar has welcomed Ireland’s selection as host for the European Team Track and Field Championships First League next year.

“It’s going to be an exciting year for international sport in Ireland in 2013. We already have the Heineken Cup final to look forward to, along with the Amlin Challenge Cup Final. Now we can add the European Team Track and Field Championships, at the Morton Stadium in Santry, to the list of top sporting events being held here,” Minister Varadkar said.

Athletes from upwards of 12 countries will be competing in the event, which will be the first European team athletics event to be held in Ireland in 15 years.

“Events like this will add to the mix of festivals and sporting events being held next year for The Gathering Ireland 2013 next year, the year-long celebration of all things Irish.”
